Questions Homeowners Ask

Straight answers to the things that come up most.

How do I know if my gutters need cleaning?

The clearest signs are water spilling over the edge during rain, visible debris or plant growth in the trough, staining or streaking on the fascia and siding, and downspouts that trickle instead of run.

Many homes do well with cleaning in spring and again in late fall. Properties with heavy tree cover often need it more often — pine needles and seed fall are especially good at packing a trough tight.

What are signs my gutters need to be replaced?

Sagging or separating sections, seams that reopen after being resealed, rust or cracking along the run, hangers pulling away with damaged fascia behind them, and undersized gutters that overflow in ordinary rain.

Isolated problems usually point to repair as the better value. When failures repeat along the entire run, replacement is typically the more durable answer — and we will say so plainly either way.

Do gutter guards eliminate gutter maintenance?

No, and anyone who tells you otherwise is selling. Quality guards significantly reduce how much debris collects and how often the system needs attention, but no guard makes a gutter system maintenance-free.

Guards should still be inspected periodically. Fine grit, shingle granules, and heavy seed fall can build up over time, and a guard that is never checked can hide a developing problem rather than prevent it.

Can damaged sections be repaired instead of replacing the whole system?

Often, yes. Isolated leaks, loose hangers, separated seams, incorrect slope, and damaged downspouts can frequently be corrected without replacing the full system.

We assess the condition of the whole run before recommending anything, and we recommend replacement only when a repair would not hold up.

How much does gutter cleaning cost?

There is no flat rate that is honest for every home. Cost depends on the size of the house, the total length of gutter, the number of stories, how reachable the roofline is, how much debris has built up, and the condition of the system itself.

A single-story ranch with clear access is straightforward. A three-story home with steep pitches, tight landscaping, and two seasons of packed debris is a different job. We look at the property, then give you a written price before any work begins.

How often should gutters be cleaned?

Twice a year suits many homes — once in spring and once after leaves drop in late fall. That is a starting point, not a rule.

What actually sets the schedule is how many trees overhang the roof and what kind they are, how the roof valleys funnel debris, how much rain the season brings, and whether guards are installed. Homes under heavy pine or oak cover often need more frequent attention; an open lot may need less. We will tell you what your property looks like it needs.
